On Tuesday, I brought in a picture that inspired me. This is Annegret Soltau, a German visual artist. The whole idea of the ripped up image and stitched back together resonated with me and implied a person who has had to assemble themselves back together but there are still gaps left and it is never perfect in the end.
Bringing what I learned in the Monday workshop, I created these various portraits. I tried to step out of my comfort zone and use materials such as plastic, glass, and paint to create unique visual pieces. While experimenting more with red and blue lighting to see how they'd interact with the different type of materials.
My tutor then gave me an artist to research more. This is French multimedia artist ORLAN. I will dedicate a full post to her and my findings and analysis of her work and how she might help me with my project Assemble.

14, 16, and 21 for the artist asks?
Sure, let's go!
14. Any favorite motifs
Hmm, well the obvious one is odd combinations of characters. You know, putting characters together that are wildly different in appearance or personality or whatever. Contrast.
I enjoy making and am very drawn to anything to do with water. Also uh.. vomit? Abstracted depictions of vomiting or bleeding from the mouth and stuff like that? Feel like I come back to that one quite often
16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
I guess I'm decent at lineart, but inking is incredibly boring and I hate that there's no lineless style that works better for me
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
Um, all of them? I'm so in love with collage work at the moment, though
Check out @loladupre
